High standards of coaching

Having explored the activity of the most successful coaches and after conducting a range of experimental studies, the ECF developed a flexible and universal training approach for coaches of any area of expertise and applicable for work with any kind of clients. We call it the 3D Coaching Ⓡ CEC ECF, patent (EU) М 66 041. As the ECF training approach consists of three elements, it can be referred to as a “three dimensional coaching”.

The 3D Coaching Ⓡ represents a three-dimensional model of coaching. The 3D Coaching Ⓡ approach enables to validate the professional mastership and personal compliance of a coach in three substantial areas:





Interacting with the client, the ECF coach:

1.1 Recognizes the guiding motives of the client (the client’s attitude towards coaching)

1.2 Is aware of the inner demands of the client

1.3 Identifies the style of the client

1.4 Forecasts the trend of the client’s behavior

1.5 Determines the core needs of the client


Interacting with the client, the ECF coach:

2.1 Defines the quality of the environment and its impact on the client

2.2 Recognizes the most appropriate environments for the client (supportive environment)

2.3 Develops a new environment (improved environment)

2.4 Demonstrates possibilities related to the modified environment

2.5 Is able to define the feasibility and relevance of creation of the environment 


Personal principles of the ECF coach:

3.1.1 Recognizes and accepts his/her own value and significance

3.1.2 Follows the ECF Code and the Client Bill of Rights

3.1.3 The being of the coach evokes the client’s potential

3.1.4 Creates trustworthy relationship with clients and the ECF members

3.1.5 The “Win-Win” principle underlies the interaction with clients and the ECF members

Basic professional skills of the ECF coach:

3.2.1 Understands dynamics of the client’s progress and regress

3.2.2 Client’s situation shows the choice of effective coaching style. 

3.2.3 Facilitates the client’s skill development, enhances the client’s competence

3.2.4 Creates consonance and enhancement rather than dissonance with the client
